Moderation Trainings Successfully Completed within the Vrij Denken Dialogen Project
As part of the Vrij Denken Dialogen (Free Thinking Dialogues) project, our training program focused on strengthening neighborhood-oriented dialogue processes and developing qualified moderators has been successfully completed.
The project is implemented with the support of the "Samen Leven in een Stad Rotterdam 2024-2027" grant program. Within this framework, 20 participants joined an extensive two-day intensive training program to become certified moderators.
Intensive and Practice-Oriented Training
The training sessions were conducted by Dr. Ibrahim Kurt and Dr. Ina ter Avest. The first session, held on March 28, 2026, focused on Deep Democracy led by Dr. Kurt. The second session on April 4, 2026, led by Dr. Ter Avest, emphasized the bridge between ZELVI theory and practical application.
Running from 09:00 to 17:00, the program offered a comprehensive curriculum including:
Theoretical knowledge transfer and practical exercises
Reflections on group dynamics
Analysis of real-life practice cases
To ensure the sustainability of the learning process, participants were provided with a digital handbook and presentation materials.
Goal: Strong and Inclusive Dialogues
The primary objective of these trainings is to train professional moderators who are capable of:
Facilitating neighborhood-based dialogue meetings
Creating inclusive, safe, and constructive conversational environments
Stimulating effective communication and participation
During the program, participants developed vital skills such as exploring diverse perspectives, conflict management, active listening, and facilitation based on the Deep Democracy method.
Certification and Social Impact
At the conclusion of the program, all 20 participants received their certificates during an official ceremony. These certificates confirm that the participants are fully prepared to take an active role as moderators in the Vrij Denken Dialogen sessions.
The Vrij Denken Dialogen project aims to:
strengthen mutual understanding between diverse communities in Rotterdam,
promote social cohesion,
and stimulate a culture of participatory democracy.
Our newly trained moderators will soon begin facilitating dialogue meetings at various neighborhood locations, contributing to the lasting impact and sustainability of the project.
